Dear Monarch Families,

Welcome to September! It is hard to believe we are already four weeks away from the end of the first quarter, but our students and staff have built such wonderful momentum together.

As we navigate this busy and exciting month, please keep these key updates and events on your calendar:

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Please be sure to sign up for your conference time slot. Building a strong school-home connection and maintaining open communication is vital to your child's success.

Leo's Glow Birthday Party: Join us tonight from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM to celebrate! We hope to see you there.

Monarch Night Out: Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 16! We look forward to gathering families together at Someburros for a fun evening out.

Annual Read-a-Thon: Our Read-a-Thon is our most important fundraiser of the year! It not only promotes a love of reading in our students, but also all the donations collected helps pay for student incentives, classroom supplies, Project Based Learning materials, school wide events, and so much more! Thank you for creating a student account and supporting your child in logging their daily reading minutes. This year, our collective goal is to read 250,000 minutes and raise at least $35,000.

Arrival Safety Procedures: Please exercise extreme caution during morning drop-off. Multiple staff members have almost been hit in our crosswalks. If the stop sign is up and the staff member is still in the street, do not move your vehicle forward until they are completely out of the crosswalk and back on the sidewalk. Additionally, please remember that traffic on Beck Road should form only one lane; do not split into two lanes until you have officially driven into the school parking lot.

Acknowledgements and Emergency Contact Confirmation

Due Today!

Each year, families are asked to review and acknowledge important information, including contact and emergency details, district policies, and survey preferences. This information is now available in ParentVUE for your review. Thank you for logging in and taking the time to complete this process. 

All families need to either confirm current emergency and contact information or make any necessary  changes.                                         

Using the mobile app? The ParentVUE and StudentVUE apps have a new version, and the older one is no longer supported. When you log in, you may be prompted to update — it takes less than a minute. After updating, you'll reconnect to Kyrene School District and then select "Already Activated" to get back into your existing account.

If you have any questions or need help accessing your account, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Clothing
We are in need of larger size clothing for boys and girls.  If you have gently worn shirts and especially elastic waist band pants and shorts, we would appreciate your donations.

Medications and Forms
If you have medications and forms to drop off or pick up, our health assistant, Mrs. McNeillie, will be available during school hours.
All prescribed and over the counter medications must be unexpired and in original containers and have the Consent for Medication Administration form signed by your health care provider.

Please do not send any medications to school with your child in their backpack.  All medications should be delivered by a parent or guardian.

Dear Families,

As part of our partnership in supporting your child's attendance, you will receive an attendance letter when your child's absences reach the equivalent of 4, 8, 13, and 19 days. These letters reflect total absences, regardless of the reason. All absences count toward the total, including those due to illness or extenuating circumstances. The letters are informational — their purpose is to make sure families have an accurate picture of the total number of days their child has missed. If you have questions about your child's attendance or a letter you received, please contact your school office.

Report Absences in ParentVue

Parents, you are now welcome to report absences in ParentVue in addition to calling the 24 hour Attendance Line at 480-541-4201.  Remember, you must inform the front office of any absences even if you let the teacher know.  Absences cannot be reported via email; only via ParentVue or the Attendance Line.

Photo Release: Revocation of Consent Form

Any families that wish to revoke consent to have photos of their children released are asked to fill out the Photo Release: Revocation of Consent Form found above and submit it to the office.  Parents may choose to consent only to use of their child's photo in the school yearbook or revoke consent for any photo/video release.

Elementary SEL 60-day Curriculum Review

The Kyrene Governing Board has approved a 60-day review of Elementary Social Emotional Learning resources. The public review of resources opened on August 19, 2026 and runs through December 2, 2026, allowing teachers, families and the community the opportunity to review all materials under consideration for adoption for the 2027-2028 school year and beyond.  During the 60-Day Review, vendors provide recorded presentations, online demo access, and digital materials for review. Families and Community members can view materials and submit a feedback survey on the Elementary Social Emotional Learning Adoption page on the Kyrene website or you can visit a Kyrene Elementary school to request access to these digital resources. 

YOU Can Make a Difference in a Student's Life

Kyrene School District partners with Purposity, an online application that allows us to share specific student needs with our generous community. Whether it is an outfit for a child who has outgrown her clothes, or household items for a family that lost everything in a fire, lending a helping hand to Kyrene families has never been easier. All donations and contributions go directly to the student or family. Kyrene has already helped hundreds of students and families from every single Kyrene school thanks to our community’s incredible generosity.

Please remember you must re-apply for Free and Reduced Meals each year.

Students may bring large bills to pay for their meal account – please remember no change is provided back to the student, the entire amount is applied to the student’s account.  Cash or checks should be brought to the office so money can be applied to the account before lunch.  

If a student does not have enough funds on their account, after two (2) meals (breakfast or lunch) they are provided an alternate meal as per District policy.  The student may still get side options and salad bar along with their milk.

Please remember that dietary restrictions must be accompanied by a Dr’s note and will be accommodated to the best of our ability. SFE is unable to honor preferences or requests.

You may check your student's lunch balance by visiting linqconnect.  Linq Connect is our self-service lunch account portal, which makes it possible for Kyrene families to easily manage their student(s) lunch account. Families may check meal balances, transfer funds, apply for free or reduced-priced meals or create spending limits for their students by visiting linqconnect. For any additional questions or assistance with your linqconnect account please call 1-844-467-4700 and follow the prompts.  Payments are applied to your student's meal account at 6:50am, 9:35am, 11:05am, 12:05pm and 11:35pm daily to update the meal account balance.

Kyrene and SFE want to assure you that when your child chooses to enjoy ala carte snacks from their cafeteria, they are selecting options that meet the strict nutritional standards outlined by the USDA's Smart Snack guidelines. These guidelines prioritize offering snacks that are lower in fat, sugar, and sodium, while also providing essential nutrients to support your child's overall health and well-being. The guidelines require that drinks be either unflavored water or 100% juice, and that snacks contain at least 50% whole grain or list the first ingredient as a fruit, vegetable, dairy food, or protein food.

It's also important to note that while some snack packaging may appear similar to those found in stores outside of school, each product has been carefully reformulated to comply with federal Smart Snack guidelines. Our foodservice management company, SFE, works diligently to ensure that all snacks offered to students are both delicious and nutritious, meeting or exceeding federal standards.

We encourage you to discuss with your child the importance of making mindful choices when it comes to snacking. By reinforcing healthy eating habits both at home and at school, we can collectively support our children in making nutritious choices that contribute to their overall growth and development. If you would like more resources and information about Smart Snack requirements, including activities that can be done at home, we recommend checking out the USDA’s website here.
